With the President calling for an increase in the minimum wage, and low-wage workers throughout the country striking in demand for higher wages, public awareness on the inadequacy of the minimum wage has grown rapidly over the past year – due in no small part to the success of various EARN groups.  The coming year holds promise for increases in a number of states, but campaigns are also dealing with new gimmicks from the opposition, such as distortive tax breaks, training wages, and larger tipped credits.  This session will provide examples of some of the more innovative and effective minimum wage efforts over the past year, a discussion of the new challenges some campaigns are facing, and an overview of the current state-of-play in minimum wage campaigns nationwide.
